R. Kelly assaulted in jail by fellow inmate: Report

TMZ, citing federal law enforcement sources, said the R&B singer was sitting on his bed in his cell within the Metropolitan Correctional Center when another inmate walked in and began the assault.

R. Kelly was not seriously injured.

The report says the inmate was upset that R. Kelly protesters were largely responsible for several recent lockdowns.

"The fight didn't last long, and it's unclear if another inmate or guards broke it up," TMZ said on Aug. 27.

A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau Of Prisons wouldn't confirm or deny the assault, nor would the singer's attorney, who only said Kelly was a model inmate.

Kelly was first locked up for two days in February 2019 after being charged with alleged sexual abuse of four girls, three of whom were minors at the time.

Later that summer, he was re-arrested and indicted on 18 federal charges that included kidnapping, forced labor, child sexual exploitation and child pornography production and obstruction of justice. He has been denied bail on several occasions.
