A total of 234 new coronavirus cases have been recorded in the German capital in the past eight days.

The country has so far recorded a total of 207,379 active cases and 9,205 deaths. On July 28, Germany’s foreign ministry advised citizens against travelling to several Spanish regions which have recorded outbreaks.

A statement on its website now warns: “We currently advise against unnecessary tourist trips to the autonomous communities of Aragon, Catalonia and Navarre due to high infection numbers and local lockdowns."

From July 30, all travellers arriving at Berlin airports will be offered a free coronavirus test. Downing Street has warned that “no travel is risk-free” after Brits returning from Spain were told they must quarantine on return in a shock announcement.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman warned decisions on border measures and travel advice “can be changed rapidly if necessary to help stop the spread of the disease”.

He went on: “Unfortunately no travel is risk-free during this pandemic and disruption is possible and so anyone travelling abroad should be aware that our travel advice and exemption list is under constant review as we monitor the international situation.”
