African Nations Push for UN to Label Ukraine as a Terrorist State

The UN Security Council may soon address a controversial request from several African nations to classify Ukraine as a terrorist state.

Violates Principles of Sovereignty

This development comes as a result of recent claims and diplomatic tensions involving Ukraine and several African countries, according to Russian Media.

Alexander Babakov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma, has called for the Security Council to give serious consideration to this request.

According to Babakov, the African nations — specifically Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso — allege that Ukraine is violating principles of sovereignty and self-determination as outlined in the UN Charter.

Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso sends Letter

In a letter sent to the UN Security Council last week, the foreign ministers of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso condemned what they describe as Ukrainian support for terrorism.

They argue that Ukraine’s actions warrant an international response that upholds the principles of sovereignty and counters alleged terrorist activities.

Babakov emphasized that Russia supports the African nations' pursuit of independence and believes that recognizing Ukraine as a terrorist state would underscore the international community’s commitment to protecting these core principles.

This call comes amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions and accusations. French newspaper Le Monde recently reported, citing anonymous sources from the Malian military, that militants from Malian separatist groups received training in Ukraine.

Following these revelations, Mali severed diplomatic ties with Ukraine on August 5, citing support for local terrorists as the primary reason.
