The Queen issues emotional statement and says she is 'humbled' as epic Platinum Jubilee weekend comes to an end
Her Majesty The Queen's monumental Platinum Jubilee has been marked in many incredible ways, including by the Trooping the Colour parade, the lighting of over 3,000 Platinum Jubilee beacons, a Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral, The Epsom Derby, The Platinum Party at the Palace and by the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
Now, to signal the end of the four days of exciting celebrations, The Queen has issued a statement to the nation as the historic events. Her Majesty thanked the country for their support after she was not able to attend a handful of the engagements in person.
Following the finale of the Platinum Jubilee, the 96-year-old monarch appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony alongside The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis - much to the delight of the crowds.

The Queen's message said: “When it comes to how to mark 70 years as your Queen, there is no guidebook to follow. It really is a first. But I have been humbled and deeply touched that so many people have taken to the streets to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee. While I may not have attended every event in person, my heart has been with you all; and I remain committed to serving you to the best of my ability, supported by my family.
“I have been inspired by the kindness, joy and kinship that has been so evident in recent days, and I hope this renewed sense of togetherness will be felt for many years to come. I thank you most sincerely for your good wishes and for the part you have all played in these happy celebrations.”
The decision to make a second appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony was made after it was said that The Queen “wanted the world to see the heartbeat of her family and the future of the monarchy”.
Speaking about the second appearance earlier this month, a royal source told the Mirror: “Her Majesty believes it will send a strong message to the world, that despite the family’s trials and tribulations over the past few years, those at the very top are united in getting on with the job, sharing her sense of duty and dedication to serving the people of this country and the Commonwealth.”
