Boy, 14, arrested after teenager murdered in Birmingham gang attack
A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after a teenager was murdered in a street attack in Birmingham.
The victim, 15, was "set upon" by a gang of youths in Handsworth just after 3.30pm on Thursday, according to police.
He was taken to hospital but died of his injuries shortly afterwards, the West Midlands force added.
A post mortem examination to establish the cause of death is due to be held.
Detectives say the suspects fled in a white car, which crashed into a house nearby.
Witnesses say they heard gunshots being fired and that the suspects were armed with knives.
The 14-year-old was arrested on Friday morning on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody.
The scene remains cordoned off while investigators continue to carry out a forensic examination.
Detective Chief Inspector Alastair Orencas, of WMP's homicide team, who is leading the inquiry, said: "Our investigation has progressed at pace and this arrest is a positive step forward as we try to establish exactly what happened yesterday afternoon.
"Yesterday's events were shocking and tragic.
"My thoughts are with the boy's family who are being supported by specialist family liaison officers at this incredibly sad and difficult time.
"We're doing all we can to fully understand what took place, violence like this on our streets is heart-breaking and deeply concerning.
"I'd urge anyone who saw anything or has any information to contact us as soon as possible."
