Deputy Warren Hobbs, 46, was working at Gwinnett County Jail, Georgia, on July 10 was sitting at his desk when he fainted and fell to the ground.

Prisoners Terry Loveless, Walter Whitehead and Mitchell Smalls were in their cell when they witnessed the incident unfold

Footage shows how they began furiously banging on their cell door in a desperate bid to alert authorities to the emergency.

In a state of semi-consciousness, Hobbs managed to press the button that opened their cell door.

The quick-thinking trio ran down a flight of stairs to Hobbs after he managed to get himself back to his chair.The men said Hobbs looked extremely pale and was lying back in his chair and making noises once they arrived.

"I started hollering and screaming and banging on the door to try to alert everybody to wake up."

Hobbs was rushed to the hospital where he received treatment but is recovering from the episode.Whitehead told Fox5 : "It scared me. I don’t care if it’s a police officer or whoever it was.

"I will do whatever I can to save a man. I don’t want anyone to die."

Deputy Shannon Volkodav, Public Information Officer at the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office in Lawrenceville said: "This story beautifully illustrates how heroes can appear in different uniforms."They came to his aid and we are deeply appreciative of their kind, courageous and selfless actions. It brings tears to my eyes.

"Deputy Hobbs might not be here today if it wasn't for them. It doesn't matter what station you are at in life, you can still be a hero.

The Chief Deputy, Lou Solis, says the entire unit of the jail as given a pizza party as a token of appreciation for their actions.
