Kate and William take on 'high profile role' as King unleashes 'extended family' for visit
The Prince and Princess of Wales greeted South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on his arrival to the UK. The occasion will mark the first state visit hosted by King Charles since he became monarch in September. According to royal commentators, Prince William and Kate are set to be centre stage during the visit, alongside other members of the extended Royal Family, including Princess Anne and the Earl and Countess of Wessex.
Speaking on GB News, royal author Katie Nicholl noted: "It is going to feel different, it is going to look different.
"We've got a King and a Queen Consort, I think it is going to feel very special. Let's watch these events closely, let's see who is going to be at the state banquet.
"We're going to have William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales. They're going to be actually greeting the President before the Guard of Honour later."
President Ramaphosa arrived at Stansted Airport on Monday, ahead of his scheduled engagements with the Royal Family on Tuesday.
Speaking of the Prince and Princess of Wales, Ms Nicholl added: "They're going to have quite a high profile role, that's going to be important.
"We're going to see the Princess Royal, we're going to see Sophie and Edward.
"We're seeing the extended family sort of brought out and placed on this world stage, alongside the King and Queen Consort."
The King and Queen Consort formally welcomed the President at the Royal Pavilion on Horse Guard Parade where the Guard of Honour gave a Royal Salute.
On Tuesday evening, a state banquet will be held at Buckingham Palace in honour of the visit, ahead of which both King Charles and President Ramaphosa will make speeches.
On Wednesday, the President is expected to be accompanied by Prince Edward on a visit to the Royal Botanic Garden in Kew.
The pair will later visit the Francis Crick Institute, a biomedical research centre that regularly collaborates with the University of KwaZulu- Natal in South Africa.
The involvement of extended Royal Family members in the state visit has signalled the King's hopes to widen the capacity of working royals.
In an unprecedented move, the monarch has also requested the historic Regency Act be amended to allow him to appoint a further two Counsellors of State, Princess Anne and Prince Edward.
The proposed expansion of the Counsellors of State has been highlighted as a plot to further oust Prince Harry and Prince Andrew who retain their positions as Counsellors despite no longer being working royals.
If the Parliament approves an amendment to the Regency Act, Princess Anne and Prince Edward would be honoured with the responsibility of standing in for the King should he be ill or otherwise unable to conduct official engagements.
